In the Schoolhouse Lofts project, we transformed the historic Mary H. Wright Elementary School—the first African-American school in Spartanburg—into a vibrant residential community featuring 53 multi-family apartments. This development stands out as one of Spartanburg’s first inclusionary residential projects, with 20% of the apartments designated as affordable/workforce housing for individuals earning up to 60% of the area median income. Listed on the National Register in 2020, the revitalized property includes 8,000 square feet of modern amenities, including a swimming pool, fitness center, and dog park, while honoring its history with a marker dedicated to Mary Wright and a trail connection to the Mary Wright Greenway.
