Spartanburg County Pet Resource Center

Designing a Compassionate Facility for Animals and Community

The Spartanburg County Pet Resource Center is designed to be a purpose-built facility that addresses the needs of both citizens and animals in the community. This single-story structure spans 26,600 square feet and includes dedicated spaces for dog and cat housing, with 79 kennels for dogs and 12 for cats, along with isolation housing for special cases.

The facility’s layout features adoption and clinic lobbies, staff offices, workstations, a break room, and essential support rooms. Medical facilities within the center will include surgery, x-ray, pharmacy, and exam rooms, alongside a multipurpose room for community engagement and events. Designed as a utilitarian structure, it emphasizes durability and low long-term maintenance costs.

In addition to the indoor spaces, the site offers 18,600 square feet of exterior space, which includes multiple fenced animal yards, artificial turf zones, and temporary housing for farm animals. The design also accommodates 72 parking spaces for visitors. The goal of the Spartanburg County Pet Resource Center is to keep people and pets together by minimizing the length of stay for animals, focusing on reuniting lost pets with their owners and finding homes for others.
